Our Story
Light Infused with Intention, Precision, and Warmth
Ovarana takes its name from the Hindi word वारना (vaarna) - circling light around your loved one, to draw away what troubles them and leave warmth in its place. In Marathi the same gesture is ओवाळणे (o-vaal-ne): waving a small lamp in a slow circle before someone dear. In Gujarati, the ritual manifests as ઓવારણું (o-vaar-nu), a warm tradition of passing one's hands around a loved one's head and cracking the knuckles against one's own temples to take upon oneself their misfortunes and shower them with blessings.
The word holds both ideas at once, encircling and protecting, and both of them are made of light. We build lamps in that spirit — a few shapes kept for years rather than seasons, made one at a time in our own studio, for the corner of a room where someone is glad to be.
A light in whose presence you feel calm, composed, protected.
The search: a shared quest for calm spaces
Our story began right in our bedroom while decorating our own home. We were looking for an aesthetic, modern lamp that could bring a sense of quiet warmth to our space.
We kept searching and realized the designs we admired were easy to find in Europe and North America, yet surprisingly difficult for Indian homes to access. While international spaces embraced sculptural, high-concept ambient lighting, local options felt generic, mass-produced, and lacking in personal soul.
We knew modern Indian living spaces were evolving toward a quieter, minimalist aesthetic. We decided that if we couldn't find the light we envisioned, we would create it.
Engineering meets art: sculpting light through precision
As a couple of engineers - one with a Master's in Software and the other in Electronics - we saw home lighting through a distinct lens. We realized that light could be sculpted like art when guided by technical precision.
When we finished our very first prototype layer by layer and switched it on in our living room, it felt magical. Watching an idea transform into warm, physical light proved that digital precision and human emotion belong together.
Crafted layer by layer for modern Indian interiors
We are a design house that curates. We choose each form slowly, and we keep the ones we love for years. You will not find a new collection here every few months - only a handful of pieces, each one meant to stay.
Every Ovarana piece is built layer by layer in our own studio, then cleaned, wired, and checked by hand before it ships.
Our promise
We will never release a design simply because it sells.
Every piece must earn its place by making a home feel calmer, warmer, and more beautiful.
If it doesn't do that, it doesn't become an Ovarana piece.
